Perth, I have fallen in love with your charm, creativity and your desire to do good for mother earth after all the good she has given us.
When it comes to 'me' time I really love hanging out at cafes on my own and sitting back with a cup of tea, soy latte or a sparkling mineral water watching the world go by or reading a book. And I love hunting for cafes that have unique and creative decor, and Perth just ticks all the boxes with several more gold stars.
On arrival to Perth for a wedding, hubby was off to take part in bridal party activities soI took a stroll down the Esplanade at Scarborough (aka 'Scabs' by the locals) and found The Wild Fig Cafe. My eyes were immediately drawn to the chairs lined with fake turf and the chairs made out of stacks of old tires, I was compelled to go in.
At first glance the Fig is like an op shop that only ever received the awesome goods... but then after a double take some things were probably unloved items that someone with creativity and a love for upcycling turned into fabulous pieces of decor.
Teacups, whisks, potato mashers, old food tins and car headlights are turned into fabulous chandeliers that create individual spaces within the restaurant. And then there is the fake grass lined walls that turn an area into a local art exhibition. But my favourite items at the Fig would have to be the crates used for shelving above the cake display and kitchen and the old road sign used for a table at the cosy couches.
So if I ever get the chance to visit my darling Perth again,
I’ll be visiting The Wild Fig Cafe and ordering the gluten free bread and
delicious dips and watching Perth dwellers pass by whilst watching the sun set
over the beautiful ocean. BLISS.

Hi Felicity, it's great to connect with more Australia based bloggers! I've been hoping to make it out to Perth (it looks and sounds like a wonderful place to visit) but my travel commitments just haven't allowed it. Hopefully 2013 will be the year! The Wild Fig Cafe certainly sounds like a place that I would absolutely love! xoxox
ReplyDeleteHi Vanisha,
DeletePerth is an incredible place to take a holiday- next time I'd love to hire a car and take a decent trip and explore the many areas of Perth. There are loads of cafes about and plenty of fabulous vintage shops and op shops filled treasures!
Definitely a fabulous place to visit but save your pennies because you will find a LOT of goodies to buy at every street :-)
Hopefully you get to go in 2013 and enjoy the sights and all the foodie delights!
